Vine Cliff Description

Unseen from the roadside, behind a gate, is small winery built into the eastern hillsides with 15,000 square feet of wine caves and a reputation for making rich, intense, food friendly and well- balanced Cabernet, Chardonnay and Merlot.

The property has a lovely landscaped creek walk and an idyllic pond outside the historic vine covered winery. Look for the whimsical metal sculptures tucked in around the gardens and creek. Under the red awning of the winery building is a simple, Spartan yet elegant tasting area in the winery’s barrel room. The room has a large, heavy wooden table for tasting and evaluating the wines.

Vine Cliff winery focuses on producing Cabernet Sauvignon from their estate vineyards in Oakville; Chardonnay from vineyards in the Carneros District; and Merlot from other vineyards in the Napa Valley.

The original winery goes back to the 1870’s with much wine making history. It was resurrected in 1985 by the present owner by 1995 the new gravity fed production facility was completed.

Since 1990, all of Vine Cliff's vineyards have been managed according to the principles and practices of sustainable viticulture, with a renewed emphasis on natural farming. This has meant that no commercial pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizers have been used, when possible, on the vines for more than a decade.

Small but worth the trip. Their Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Merlot were each excellent in their own right. A pretty creek and landscaping decorate the area. Love the natural farming approach. Ring the bell out front and then you can then make an appointment over their intercom.
