Description

Throughout five generations, the Wente family has been dedicated to the art of winemaking, and has been a leader in California’s wine industry. The family operations have grown to include three historic wineries, over 3,000 acres of vineyards, an award-winning restaurant, a Greg Norman-designed 18-hole championship golf course, a conference center for corporate events and weddings, and an outstanding line of entertainers at their Summer Concert Series held at their Arroyo Road facility.

On Tesla Road are their large tasting room complex, estate winery, picnic area, and extensive gift shop. The freestanding octagonal tasting room has two large areas for the visitor to explore. On one side, a tasting kiosk serves up samples of their many wines. There are small tables and benches built into the room, creating the atmosphere of a lively coffee bar. The other side is their retail area, with a great gift shop, deli case, and wine room. Picnic and gourmet foods are available and can be enjoyed either inside or on their large shaded patio. Daily public winery tours begin at 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm, and 3:00pm.

They pour their “food-friendly” Vineyard Selection series wines, which include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Syrah, Merlot, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their higher-end Vineyard Reserve wines include Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel and Cabernet. Their Reserve Brut sparkling wine is also available.

The winery also has special lots that are made for their club members and winery visitors. These wines are produced separately, with the fruit being hand-sorted and made in much smaller lots.

Good people, good wines
Rocko, San Jose

Although it was crowded here we enjoyed the stop because the people were very attentive to us. We got our tastes and even sat down at their little tables. We took a great tour through the place and it made the day eventful. They had some good bargains on the wine and we were happy!

Try the Merlot
Dylan, Ventura

The Sauvignon Blanc held a unique flavor that I did not expect from such a wine. I came to favor the Merlot and left that afternoon with a few bottles to savor. The vineyard was a pleasant occasion and I loved the ability to tour the winery at the various times offered. Although it did not have the humble homely feeling that I appreciate in a vineyard.
