Windward Vineyard Description
A mile off Highway 46 on a gravel drive, is a winery and vineyard that specializes in one varietal wine—the grand grape of Burgundy, Pinot Noir.
As you walk up to the metal sided winery and tasting room building you pass by a large lathe house that has been fashioned into a “wine garden” with a pea gravel floor and rustic tables and benches that look out over the hillside vineyard. At the entrance to the tasting room is a unique metal sculpted vine reaching a dozen feet tall. Inside there is a step spiral stairway leading to a small office perched above the cozy tasting room. The mustard colored walls host original art work from a local artist. Behind the small tasting bar, an interior window looks in on the barrel room. The room is notable as there is only art and wine displayed; no boutique items in sight!
The family owned operation specialize in 100 percent estate grown and produced, Burgundian-style, handcrafted Pinot Noir. The property is designed as a “Monopole” where it is solely owned by Marc Goldberg and Maggie D’Ambrosia who control all of the grape growing and winemaking. They will generally produce just one wine each year with the exception of certain vintages where a reserve “barrel select” is determined by the winemaker. The vineyard was planted in 1990 with four notable French Pinot Noir clones. The combination of characteristic of these clones and the dense mineralization of the soil create these notable and noble wines. Enjoy a “vertical” tasting of their recent vintages.

Early morning at WindwardBrenJ, Long Beach March, 2007 We left Long Beach rather early and arrived at Windward, our first stop, before they were even open. So we strolled the grounds and played with the winery dog for a while to stretch our legs. The owner arrived from an errand and opened early for us. She and the staff were as friendly as could be, and even at that early hour, the Pinots were great! Perfectly balanced, some ready to drink now, others still needed a bit of time. I will head back!

Pinot PalaceCHAMBRECHT, MERCED October, 2007 Pinot's are the only wine produced here, and after tasting them it's all they need to make. They were aromatic, beautifully hued and worth every cent. A place I will always visit when I'm in the area. The tasting room was comfortable with beautiful artwork adorning the walls. The staff was kind and attentive and above all he had the eagerness to explain the wines to my new tasting partner.
