Hunt Cellars Description

On Highway 46 West sits a large colonial style farm house that serves as the tasting room of Hunt Cellars. This country casual tasting center is a family run operation where one is bound to receive lots of personal attention.

The wine traveler is greeted with live music from a white grand player piano. Their attractive pale yellow room is filled with antique furniture and a custom made “Cabernet Bar.” The walls have newspaper and magazine articles about the Hunt family, their wines and the winery. The mood is fun and relaxed when sampling their limited production wines. You may also choose to sip your wines on a spacious 1200 foot veranda, smoke your favorite cigar under the pavilion or stroll through the lush inviting gardens, or hang out on the lawn.

In 1996 the Hunt family purchased 550 acres of ranch land and began their initial planting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Syrah, Cab Franc, Viognier and Zinfandel. The vineyard was named Destiny in honor of their young daughter Destiny who was born in 1996. The winemaking philosophy is to make “Memorable Wines” that leave indelible impressions when enjoying with food or simply sipping on their own.

David Hunt, the patriarch of the family, has had a successful entrepreneurial career, despite the fact that he is legally blind. He feels his limited sight has added to his ability to expertly craft subtle nuances into great wines.

Splurge on the reserve tastings...they're worth the additional tasting fee. The tasting room is exquisite and you can enjoy your midday lunch, snack, or cigar on their deck. I can't say that I have a real hands-down favorite from Hunt but the wines are all above average and depending on what your friendly pourer has available for you to taste, you will likely enjoy a tasting trip to Hunt very much.
