Norman Vineyards Description
After over 20 years of growing grapes for other wineries, Art Norman set out to construct his own winery and tasting operation producing elegant red wines with a focus on Zinfandel.
Built in 1992, the early California style winery of Norman Vineyards is tucked right into the hillside, blending into the land and surrounding vineyards. From the parking area take the stairway up to the tasting room and garden patio. There are tables and chairs and picnic spots sprinkled about. The property is densely wooded and can provide some relief from the summer time heat.
One of the “Far Out” wineries, it frequently hosts musical events on their lovely patio. Inside is a roomy tasting area, with a tile floor, a pot bellied stove, and a heavy wood beamed ceiling. There is a deli case with cheese and other snacks and logo clothing for sale.
The winery is known for its elegant Cabernet and Meritage, Barbera, Syrah, Chardonnay, and bold Zinfandel wines. Nine different Zinfandel offerings are produced, including “The Monster”, “Old Vine”, “The Classic”, a Zinfandel Port and a White Zinfandel.
The vineyard is situated in the cool hills near the ocean. Their estate Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Barbera tend to have harvest dates beginning in late October and sometimes stretching even into December. As a result, grapes have an extraordinarily long growing season and time to develop very full flavor profiles. Some of their limited production wines are only available in the tasting room.
